2 out of 5 stars Typical LCD - Wait til you can afford a better technology!   December 16, 2008
C. Magee (Glasgow, UK)
Hi there, I bought this TV on reviews here alone and although I'd hoped it would be a decent TV, I'm afraid its just a typical (as in typically bad) LCD television.

I have used a 37" HUGE backed CRT TV for the last 8 years or so and it was losing it's colour a bit so I thought I'd try a "newer" style TV. The fact is, even in this day and age, an LCD TV STILL cannot compete with the quality of a decent CRT TV. Not at this price anyway.

Im bitterly disappointed with this TV although please note, I'm one of those people who are disappointed with ALL LCD TV's when I see them in stores etc. I cant believe this technology was even used for TV's! It just doesn't do it well! I guess I've been spoiled for the last 8 years but, over the last few, I have stood in TV stores shaking my head disapprovingly and laughing at the "newer" and latest quality of LCD televisions. I convinced myself that this latest craze was nothing more than the aesthetics and "cool points" of having a slim TV in your room or on your wall and that can surely be the only reason for buying such TV's? as the picture, comparatively to CRT's, is almost ludicrous.

This TV has done nothing to change my mind in the slightest!

I have no digital TV signal worth bothering about in these parts so I only connected my SKY box to it via SCART as I normally do. It's blocky, the picture is bland and watching a football game, the players have an aura around them when they move. It's just terrible and blocky. Did I mention how blocky it was?

Graphics - as in the TV logos found in the corners of most channels these days, just bleeeeeds into the picture. It's almost ridiculous. It looks like one of those old TV's years ago when you hadn't quite turned that old knob to quite the right place and it's slightly off. - remember them?

If any of you are interested in PC's and work with jpeg picture files - you know what happens to them when you zoom in to them? and they go all blocky and pixalated? Well, now I have to watch every single program and film like a blown up, zoomed in jpeg file and I'm not happy! (in case you hadn't guessed by now)

I guess I should have believed my own hype on how bad LCD TV's are in general but, I am mad at ME more than the TV itself for buying it in the first place! It has good connections and the sound is OK. A doddle to setup (dead easy) and for the money, I guess it makes a decent PC monitor!

So, I have two choices - cough up the big bucks for a decent plasma or DLP TV OR put this LCD out in the garden so that it is far enough away that I cant see the blocky EVERYTHING on the screen! (hey, might make a decent TV for a pub when the punters are far from it and the TV is way way high up on the wall! - see? Positives people!! haha)

Oh well, at least I'm cool now and have a great looking TV in my room (when it's switched off) I mean, that's really what it's all about these days! Isn't it?
